Lino Printing Classes

**Coranavirus update**

I can't offer face-to-face private teaching for now and some of my group workshops are cancelled or postponed. Here is what you can do instead...

Book a virtual private workshop and I will send you a custom lino kit to get you started

Please see the page Virtual Lino Workshops for more information.

Buy a gift voucher for private lino printing tuition later in the year

Workshop vouchers make a great gift for your crafty friend or relative. There is no need to book a date for the workshop beforehand. Please pay for the vouchers using the same methods as below and contact me afterwards to let me know that the payment is for a voucher. I will then post the voucher to you first class at no additional cost and you will also receive one of my blank greetings cards that you can write a personal message in.

You know as well as I that there is little information right now as to when things will be returning to normal, but I would hope to be able to honour your workshop voucher later in the year.

For later in the year or for gift vouchers --> Private Lino Printing Day Workshops at my home studio in Bicester

Whether you are completely new to lino printing or want to improve a particular aspect of your work, you'll have my undivided attention! My lino workshops can be on a 1-to-1 basis, or 1-to-2 if you would like to come with a friend or relative.
I'll help you plan, execute and complete a print in a day using the reduction linocut method. This is a multi-colour relief printing technique which involves cutting and printing a few layers of colour from the same block of lino in order to build up an image. We will cover how to plan a design and transfer it to the lino; how to cut the lino; how to ink up the lino and how to print it.  Most students manage to print three to four colours. I do have a small relief press and a larger press, but I normally show students how to burnish the prints by hand. This way you can easily replicate the process at home with minimal equipment. You will also learn how to correctly register your prints so that each layer of colour lies directly on top of the previous layer.
Standard hours for day bookings are 10am-4pm. I charge £150 for one person for the day or £190 for two people (£95 each). This includes all your materials and hot drinks. There are shops nearby to purchase lunch.

Travel information

By car:

Bicester is in North West Oxfordshire. The main roads in and out of Bicester are the M40, the A34, and the A41.

By train:

There are two train stations within walking distance or short taxi ride to my house. They are on the Chiltern Railways line. Bicester North station is closer - a 10/15 minute walk and Bicester Village station is a 20/25 minute walk. It would be easy to get a taxi from either station if you didn't fancy the walk.

By bus:

The Oxford to Cambridge Stagecoach X5 service stops in the town centre, about 10/15 minutes walk from my house.

Workshops for larger groups

I can't easily fit more than two students at my home studio, if there is two or more of you interested in doing a workshop, please get in touch as I can find alternative venues, or perhaps you have access to a suitable venue yourself?

Demonstrations

I am happy to do demonstrations for groups and societies, please get in touch if you are interested.
