Care Instructions
Silver tarnish
Silver by its nature will oxidise with the air to form a tarnish. There are ways to minimise the the amount that your jewellery will tarnish and keep your jewellery in good condition:
- when your jewellery is not being worn, keep it in its box to minimise its exposure to the air and humidity
- avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, soaps, creams and deodorants by putting your jewellery on after getting ready not before
- use a silver cloth on the item to keep it sparkling
For delicate or intricate designs, you may not be able to reach every surface with a silver cloth. A silver dip should be used in these circumstances if a piece of work needs brightening. Always use a well known brand of silver dip and always follow the intructions provided. Never leave a piece of jewellery in the silver dip for long periods of time and never put oxidised work in a silver dip.
Oxidised work
Some of Alexandra's work is deliberately oxidised either wholly or partly, to create a luscious dark surface. If your opt for an oxidised finish on your work, never put the piece in a silver dip or use an abrassive silver polish, as this will ruin the finish on your work.
Oxidised pieces will still go dull over time, so occasionally wiping them with a silver cloth is a good idea to keep them sparkling. Never rub too vigorously however as you may rub away the dark surface. Always avoid scratching your oxidised jewellery as only the surface of the silver is dark, a deep scratch will reveal the original silver colour of the metal.
Elongated work
Some of Alexandra's work is rolled thinly in a rolling mill to create a dramatic shadow effect. The rolled elements of the work are flexible to an extent but care should be taken not to bend the silver into a fold as this will be difficult to repair.
Safety
Some of Alexandra's designs stand away from the body or have a pointed shape. Please take care with these pieces not hurt yourself either on the point or by catching the piece on your clothing or other objects.
